Outdoors you don’t set the light. You work with it — and that’s why an outdoor session looks different from a studio one.
It isn’t that it’s somehow “more natural”. It’s that you get things a studio can’t give you: space around you, depth, sun at a particular hour, a background that means something. The price for that is less control — and that’s worth knowing before you book, too.
What it costs
An outdoor session costs 700 PLN for 10 photos, 1200 PLN for 20 or 2000 PLN for 40 — the same as a private session in a studio, because it’s the same work. What differs is the cost of the place: a studio adds a rental fee, outdoors there’s usually nothing to add.
Usually, not always. A botanical garden, private grounds or another paid location has its own fee. If we pick a place like that, I give you the cost before booking and you pay it 1:1, with no markup from me.
Where we start
With the time of day. Outdoors this is decision number one, more important than the location. The hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset give soft, warm light and long shadows. Midday gives hard light from above — sometimes great, but entirely different pictures. We book the session around the light, not around a free slot in the calendar.
Then the place. Same as choosing a studio — first we settle how the photos should look, then I go looking for a location. It can be the city, greenery, water, architecture, or your own interior if that’s where the mood lives. The photos in the gallery were taken in Warsaw — by the Fryderyk Chopin Museum on Tamka Street, in Ciszyca, and in the city at dusk and at night — and beyond it, on the beaches of Gdańsk-Brzeźno and Gdynia-Redłowo and in the Ślichowice quarry reserve in Kielce.
Logistics last. There’s no dressing room outdoors. If we’re planning several outfits, I pick a spot where changing is possible and tell you in advance.
Weather
Outdoor work depends on the weather and there’s no point pretending otherwise. An overcast sky is a big, soft diffuser and often makes better pictures than hard sun. What we do if it pours on the day depends on the concept, the conditions and what we agreed at booking — sometimes we move the date, and sometimes rain is exactly what we came for.
Winter isn’t a problem either, and we’re not afraid of it: one of our sessions was shot at night in the snow, at −12°C.
